Take it from someone with a podcast obsession: I’ve rounded up the best podcasts for starting a side hustle. You can thank me later! Happy listening!
Y’all, I love podcasts! I’ll be honest with you: I spend a ton a time with earbuds in, learning more about growing a business, being entertained with some true crime, and taking my personal growth to the next level. I listen while I drive, cook, clean, and workout, and probably even more than that, but regardless – I listen to a TON of podcasts, and it’s time to share the wealth.
I’ve gone through my listening history to round up the top 10 best podcasts for starting a side hustle. You will love them, you will relisten to them, and you will need them to keep you on track. They have helped me stay committed and focus on the right areas in my business, and now you can do the same.
A warning here: There’s way more to building a side business from scratch than just Facebook ads, copywriting, or figuring out your ideal client avatar. You’ll notice that many of my podcast recommendations (though, not all of them!) are less technical and more focused on mindset.
And that’s on purpose. There is literally nothing more important to being successful in your online business than your mindset. Your mindset is the foundation of your business. It will make or break you. Don’t let a fancy-pants digital marketer try to tell you different! If you don’t believe you can make it as an entrepreneur, you will fail. If you have the belief and the willingness to fail and try over and over again, you will succeed.
Without further ado, my list of the best podcast episodes for starting a side hustle:
- Grow Your Side Hustle – Without The Burnout by yours truly on the Burned Out to Biz Boss podcast
I can’t have a list of best podcasts for starting and growing a side hustle without including my own, am I right? In this episode, I take you through my seven biggest lessons for building your side business without the hustle and burnout. It’s hard work building your business with your full time job, but you CAN make it easier on yourself!
- How Quitting Slows You Down by Brooke Castillo at the Life Coach School podcast
I have a confession to make. I have quit my side business once before, and I learned my lesson from it. Do not quit! Take a break if you must, lower your expectations if you must, but don’t just quit. I wish I would have learned better boundaries, balance, and self-care when I first started in my business because I wouldn’t have quit AND I’d be further along today.
Take it from me: If you have that burning desire in your gut to be an entrepreneur, it will not go away. It will eat at you until you make it happen. Don’t quit. It will only set you back.
- The Seven Biggest Fears That Stop People From Building An Online Business by Amy Porterfield and Marie Forleo on the Online Marketing Made Easy podcast
If you don’t know Amy Porterfield and Marie Forleo, get thee to thy phone and subscribed to their podcast stat! This episode is a gem since it’s the two of them together, and they walk you through the seven biggest fears with starting a business AND provide you evidence that they’re lies.
- The 3 Stages of Belief by Stacey Boehman on the Make Money as a Life Coach podcast
Okay, you caught me, this is actually a series of three episodes. Don’t let the podcast name fool you, Stacey’s teachings can be applied to any business. Her third stage of belief, “Inevitability” lit a fire under my bum. There is nothing quite like knowing that succeeding in your business is inevitable. I just got chills thinking about it!
- 10 Seemingly Benign Problems That Will Destroy Your Chances of Ever Making Millions by Julie Stoian on the Create Your Laptop Life podcast
I love Julie Stoian. Period. She’s the realest digital marketer/influencer I’ve come across and an amazing teacher. In fact, I studied digital marketing under her in a group course called Digital Gangsta; she’s knowledgeable and she kicked my butt. Julie is the real deal and will give it to you straight.
- Talking Pinterest Marketing and Secrets by Rachel Ngom on the She’s Making an Impact podcast
I loved the really helpful tips on using Pinterest in this episode, but more importantly, Rachel talks a lot about niching down and how it helps you find your audience and fast. Pay attention and you might get some good ideas for how to niche!
- Alternative Futures by Brooke Castillo on the Life Coach School podcast
If you’re trying to make a decision on what you want to do in your business or in your life, this podcast is for you. Brooke teaches us to choose the future we most want, not the safest option. You choose your future from a long list of amazing futures, but on the empty promise of “this is more likely to work”. I’ve listened to this episode at least three times, it’s that good.
- Money Beliefs by Brooke Castillo on the Life Coach School podcast
If you want to start a successful side hustle, you have to ask to be paid what you’re worth (and NOT for your time!). For many of us, that goes against our internal beliefs about money. If you think your money beliefs can’t hold you back from your dream business, think again. If you’re terrified of spending any money, you’re going to have a hard time making it.
- What to Focus On When You Are Just Starting Out by Amy Porterfield on the Online Marketing Made Easy podcast
It’s very easy to develop shiny object syndrome when you’re just starting your side hustle. Maybe you should have a funnel? What if you use chat bots? What if you learn Pinterest marketing? What if you buy that course? What if you join that Mastermind? It can be incredibly overwhelming. This episode helps you figure out where to put your time, effort, and attention.
- Failure Tolerance by Brooke Castillo on the Life Coach School podcast
You can’t be successful in business without failing. And it sucks. You will try to sell offers and get crickets in return. You’ll post your first blog, and no one will read it.
Luckily, it gets easier, especially if you allow your tolerance for failure to grow. The only way to get better is to keep going. The only way to make money is to keep putting yourself out there and not take failure personally. Brooke is a master at teaching these concepts.
And because you can’t have a list of the best podcasts for starting a side hustle without it….
Honorable mention: Side hustle school podcast
Chris Guillebeau’s books changed my life. He’s the one who made me realize I really wanted to be an entrepreneur in the first place, and his Side Hustle School podcast is a great place to get ideas for side hustles along with a dose of inspiration. They are short, sweet, and to-the-point, perfect for daily listening!
